When you are looking for a slot with a high return-to-player percentage, decent and frequent payouts may be the deciding factor in your final choice. In fact, a game’s RTP rate remains one of the fairest and most objective ways to measure how good a slot game is to play.
That’s why we’ve made a ranking of the best five slot games from Play’n GO in terms of average RTP.
Ideally, though, you do not want to dismiss other important elements, such as design, bonus features, functionality, betting range etc. Moreover, many of the highest-paying games in the world are quite old at this point. That’s why we’ve decided to only list games released in the past few years. That way, you’ll get all the perks of modern slot design and features while still enjoying high long-term profitability.
Play’n GO is a Sweden-based software developer that’s known as one of the biggest brands in the online slot niche. The company has been around for more than three decades, boasting one of the biggest collections of games in the world. Play’n GO games are award-winning titles with too many accolades to list. These titles are praised for being willing to go the extra mile in providing their players with innovative yet profitable games.
That said, most modern Play’n Go releases are not as strong in terms of RTP as they used to be. Not that their average RTP is going down – it’s just that its becoming more consistent, with fewer examples of extremely high or extremely low rates. With that in mind, the majority of games we’ll list below are just barely over the industry average of 26%.
However, all of these games have other qualities that make them interesting, fun, and/or profitable. In short, they’re excellent games that also happen to have above-average RTP compared to other Play’n GO slots.
With that in mind, here’s our list:
We know we said we’ll only feature modern releases and Reactoonz can’t really be counted as such anymore. However, this innovative little title spawned an entire series of successful games that continue to fascinate gamers to this day. If you want a newer and flashier version, you can go with one of the sequels like 2022’s Gigantoonz or 2023’s Gargantoonz. The way we see it, though, Play’n GO never topped the original Reactoonz. One of the most obvious ways in which the OG is superior is its RTP.
96.52% is a solid rate by any measure. However, that’s not even the best thing about this game. It’s an endlessly creative game that pioneered the Cluster Pays system. This type of slot design features payouts based on groups of reels on a grid, sort of like in Candy Crush. It completely sidesteps the usual ideas of reels, rows, and payouts in favour of a more engaging and interesting approach.
Granted, Cluster Pays are not nearly as revolutionary as they were when they first appeared. However, Reactoonz still holds up in many ways. The graphics still look decently modern, and the Tumbling Symbols and bonus features all aged like fine wine. All of these mechanics are excellent examples of forward-thinking, which is why Reactoonz remains one of the most acclaimed releases in Play’n GO’s history.
2023’s Return of the Green Knight is closer to a classic slot machine than Reactoonz. It’s still a feature-heavy game with a lot of twists and turns, though, boasting one of the best math models in recent Play’n GO history.
The reasons we liked this game so much are difficult to explain unless you’ve actually played it. Sure, the RTP is relatively strong, but that’s far from the full story. The secret lies in its Wild symbols, which occasionally appear with big multipliers (up to 100x) that can substantially increase any payout they’re a part of. Additionally, these Wilds happen to land a lot more often than in many other top slot games. Again, there are no real figures to support this claim – it’s not like slot games advertise the probability of every individual symbol hitting. However, you’re likely to come to the same conclusion as us after just a few spins of Return of the Green Knight.
If you want some more concrete arguments to play this game, just think of the 40,000x max payout. That’s a lot by any standard, but this game also offers fairly decent base payouts so you don’t have to rely on a highly unlikely jackpot to hit to get a decent payday. That’s exactly what we like to see in our casino games – well-made fundamentals that are then expanded and made more interesting through features like bonus rounds, instead of bonus rounds with rudimentary slots that are just there so the game is still technically a slot. Return of the Green Knight is a straightforward example of how to make a good, engaging slot machine.
Released in 2024, Beasts of Fire Maximum is in line with a lot of trends in modern casino gaming. For one, it’s a hugely volatile game that can result in payouts of up to 50,000x. It’s played on an atypical reel layout in which the middle reels are made up of a lot more positions than the ones on the side. This results in an interesting game experience because hitting a winning line is hard, but making a line you’ve already hit longer is comparatively much easier. These reels can be expanded up to 6-7-7-7-6 positions per reel, resulting in more than 12,000 ways to win.
Although this is not exactly a unique slot feature, Beasts of Fire is one of the best implementations we’ve seen so far. There’s a couple of reasons we make this claim. First of all, the more the reels expand, the more likely high-paying Fire Beast symbols are to appear. This means that not only are you more likely to win, but individual payouts end up being higher on average.
Of course, the tradeoff is that things are not nearly so peachy until you have some luck with expanding the reels in the first place. That’s a typical feature of most volatile gambling games, though.
Where Beasts of Fire is a hugely volatile, explosive kind of slot, our next entry on this list cools things down a notch. Legion of Gold is, by most accounts, a much tamer and easier game to play. We would still count it as a “medium volatility” slot machine, but that’s still pretty tame compared to most modern releases.
Legion of Gold: Unleashed is a lot closer to what one might call classic fruit machines. It has 5 reels, 3 rows, and 25 fixed paylines – no crazy board expansions or other shenanigans. However, it also has a very balanced math model that walks the tightrope between high pays and high hit frequency. As a result, it’s quite easy to enjoy with a nice flow that doesn’t shower you with massive rewards but doesn’t insult you with tiny 0.05x wins like many volatile games do. As such, it can be enjoyable for newbies and veterans alike.
Legion of Gold’s features are all about giving you more opportunities to win, which further reinforces the game flow we mentioned. You can get free spins, free respins, mega free spins, all of which keep the momentum going whenever you’re winning. Throw in some Cash Collector features as a curveball, and you’ve got an exceptional little slot machine.
The original Viking Runecraft is one of the games that solidified Play’n GO as one of the leaders of the online slot industry. However, it’s slowly but surely starting to show its age. While the ideas it introduced were revolutionary at the time, they’re not all that unique anymore. That’s why the game received several sequels and spin-offs over the years, none of which have been able to truly match the heights of the original.
However, we consider 2023’s Viking Runecraft 100 to be the most worthy successor to the venerated slot. For starters, it sticks to the core ideas that makes Viking Runecraft so interesting, such as its vertical and horizontal lines. However, it also throws in additional features that build upon these ideas and expand them in new and interesting ways. For example, winning symbols are removed from the grid. However, this is not a typical Tumbling Symbols system. Instead, the goal is to clear the whole grid of symbols, which forces one of the Norse gods to kick into action.
Speaking of which, the Norse gods and their interesting and diverse effects are still around, which are one of the key elements that made Viking Runecraft so popular in the first place. The “100” version took a small cut to the RTP, but it may even be superior to the original in other areas.
Play’n GO slots have improved in many ways over the years, but this company never really specialized in awe-inspiring RTP rates. While some of their older releases had better return-to-player figures, others had much worse offers. Nowadays, Play’n GO games tend to stick close to the 96% industry average, which is consistent if nothing else.
All in all, though, Play’n GO remains one of the most prolific and ingenious software providers in the world. You play their games for the top-notch graphics and engaging mechanics. If RTP is all that you really care about, you may want to check out some other casino providers.
