Not to be mistaken with Banana Joe, a sadly underrated comedy from 1982 starring Bud Spencer, Banana Jones is the adventure-themed game by RTG, with an equally exciting plot that will make you go bananas over it! On his noble quest to obtain the sacred Crystal Banana from the ancient Temple before it falls into the hands of the enemies, our hero must face and defeat the dangerous Leopold the Leopard and his guerilla snakes – should he fail to find the Crystal Banana in time, the entire world be in great peril… Will Banana Jones succeed in his mission?
Banana Jones symbols are scattered across the board and it is your job to collect them – as you roll the dice and move across the board, the Gemstones that you manage to acquire will be tracked by the game’s counter in the left upper corner. The same will happen with the sneaky snakes and the vines; stepping onto them will change your board position and lead you towards the Temple, where the mission will be completed!
As skilful and resourceful as he is, we cannot help but notice that Banana Joe stumbled upon the Temple by mere accident – thanks to the plane malfunction. We are certain that he would have found the location eventually, but our little trooper is still in dire need of your help. Which is why you must give your best shot to help him destroy the serpents and get to the crystal fruit before any of them!
The game has a similar structure to Snakes & Ladders board and the player’s task is to navigate the main character; to do that, players will roll the dice 5 times per bet, with each roll bringing you closer to the successful completion of the mission or – who knows? – maybe even to Banana Jones’s demise. So, keep your fingers crossed to avoid landing on a snake’s head since this will position you further away from the Temple – landing on the vines will, on the other hand, help you get near the final destination.
If you are fortunate enough to land Banana Jones on the Treasure Wheel Head field, the Treasure Wheel feature will be activated and trigger an extra spin which can result in a cash prize. The adventure will not end here! Once you manage to get across the entire board and finally reach the Temple, the Crystal Banana Quest feature will be unlocked and the player will get to select one of the chests with fruits inside. All of the symbols from the chest – bananas, plums, pears, grapes, and apples – will go straight into the game’s counter and the bets will be settled accordingly.
The payouts will depend on the symbols you manage to collect throughout the game and the value attached to each of the icons. In total, the game can generate a payout of x2,565 one’s bet, which means that higher bets will, of course, result in more lucrative payouts.
Banana Jones definitely came as a surprise and this is not something that was expected from Realtime Gaming. Don’t get us wrong, RTG is famous for their innovative approach (just remember the Real Series slot games) but board games are not a frequent occurrence.
Still, it was a nice break of a routine and a welcome addition to the developer’s gaming catalogue – possibly even a new trend, which, we hope, other developers will follow. There are quite a few board games that we would like to see in electronic form and adjusted to betting purposes!
