Back to basics may be a worn-out slogan, but it’s the best way to describe a game like Hot Shot Progressive. Developed by Bally Technologies, this classic-themed game provides traditional gameplay, while a smart bonus feature further adds to the excitement. It’s a highly volatile release, played on a five-reel three-row grid with forty fixed paylines.
At first, it appears this 2018 release doesn’t differ much from other similarly-themed games. However, it does. Developers were very creative with the Game In Game feature, allowing the fans of traditional fruit machines to enjoy six slot games on the same screen! Aside from that, Hot Shot Progressive is pretty much a standard slot, with payouts reaching 10,000 times the bet or $250,000.
Once the game starts, you’ll see the reel set against a fiery backdrop. There are no stunning visuals or impressive animations, but you won’t expect something like that from a classic-themed slot like this one.
You’ll encounter lots of familiar symbols. There are red sevens (in two variants), single, double, and triple BAR icons, dollar signs, and bells. The design of the symbols looks plain, but again, that perfectly suits the theme. Unfortunately, there are no Wilds.
The good news you’ll win on almost every spin, but the bad news is your winnings won’t be enough to cover your bet in most cases. The highest-paying symbols are triple bars and red sevens. The fiery red seven pays out 100 times the bet for five across a payline and is by far the most generous icon.
Players can place bets as low as $0.40, while the maximum stake is set at $24 per spin. That’s between $0.01 and $0.60 per line.
Hot Shot Progressive features five reels and three rows. Wins are formed on adjacent reels, starting from the left one, with at least three symbols needed to receive a payout.
The Game in Game bonus is where things become exciting. It includes five mini-games, which are activated by landing at least three mini-game Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. Each of the new reel sets will spin again, and if nothing is won, it will spin again. The process will continue until there’s at least one win. Three of the most valuable symbols on a payline will determine the payout.

Triple Jackpot – The game logo pays 4,000 times the bet for five across a payline.
Blazing 7s x 7 – BAR symbols, cherries and blazing sevens award 1,000 the stake. The game logo acts as a Wild, substituting for other icons and helping complete winning combinations. When the game logo crosses the payline, a staggering payout of 40,000 times the bet is awarded.
The Game in Game bonus is your only chance to scoop bigger prizes. Although the slot’s name suggests a progressive award on offer, the reality is that all jackpots are fixed. The game’s average RTP is 96.04%.
Hot Shots Progressive doesn’t boast flashy visuals, but that’s something you expect from a classic-themed slot. The gameplay itself is nothing special, although developers were very creative when adding the Game in Game bonus. We haven’t encountered a feature like this yet, and we like the idea of having the opportunity to play different slots within a single game.
